Zhang Xiaogang has been internationally recognized and widely exhibited as one of today s leading artists of China. Inspired by Chinese family portrait photography, his compositions portray silently staring figures that convey a remarkable and undeniably powerful presence. His works are delicately executed in such a way that, although the subjects are painted against a flat background and lack volume, the melancholy expressions of their faces are hauntingly realistic. His works question the future of the institution of family in the aftermath of China s Cultural Revolution, an event which greatly impacted Zhang Xiaogang s generation. He has exhibited extensively around the world and his work is in the collections of several major museums.
Zhang s paintings also suggest something else - the enormous emotional pressures that a newly emergent Chinese middle-class has had to sustain, and which, to some extent at least, it continues to sustain. These are people with an immense turmoil locked up inside them. The turmoil is signalled by small signs. For example, in some of the group paintings one of the subjects, usually a child, will have a squint, where one pupil, rather than staring directly ahead, wanders into a corner of the eye-socket.Zhang Xiaogang notes that Chinese society is undergoing a process of rapid transformation, and that this has raised a whole series of questions that most Chinese have never previously had to ask themselves. The remarkable series of painting that he has created since the beginning of the 1990s formulate these questions, but do not venture to supply answers. They are ambiguous, in the sense that most successful pictorial art is ambiguous. What his work does is to invite the spectator to think about the situation, to explore it from several points of view.
CONCLUSION: I still expect my own works to have a kind of psychological resonance. This is the sensitivity of art, and I believe this is very important to an artist. At the same time, living in an age that we could call complicated, I still respect an ancient principle: art should manifest a person s unique disposition.

A look at the rich and powerful spiritual legacy of the Andean civilization which is only now being properly recognised after 500 years of obscurity. This interview of Doris Rivera Lenz, was conducted by Howard G. Charing & Peter Cloudsley. This interview appeared in Sacred Hoop Magazine Issue 57, and the book Plant Spirit Shamanism (Destiny Books USA).
Doris has lived in Cusco for many years conducting ofrendas and reading coca leaves for dozens of people every week - both local as well as from far flung places.
Millions of Indians have chewed coca on a daily basis for many hundreds of years, yet never has a plant been so misrepresented and its use so controlled by prejudice and ignorance, including up to the present day. The Conquistadors considered it an idle and offensive habit to be prohibited, but it was soon seen that the Indians could not work without coca even when forced to do so.
Chewing coca has continued to be a custom not because it is a habit drug , but because it is a part of Andean culture which, most importantly, knows how to make work a sacred activity. The Indians chew coca just as they do everything else, very deliberately and systematically. A mouthful of leaves is carefully chosen from an exquisitely woven coca bag or chuspa. Llipta, or lime, is intermixed with the leaves while chewing to liberate the active ingredients.
The Incas regarded coca as the divine plant mainly because of its property of imparting endurance, nevertheless its use was entwined with every aspect of life; the art, mythology, culture and economy of the Andean civilisations, including the Inca Empire.
Even today, distances are measured in cocadas - how far an Indian carries his load under the stimulus of one chew of coca. But the ceremony which brings out the essentially shamanistic dimension is the mesa, and this unites the whole community.
The mesa may begin with discussion of pressing social and political issues, this too, is accompanied by ritual coca chewing. Later offerings are made for Pachamama or Mother Earth. In some places the mesa can also be an all night session, held secretly indoors. After this, divination with coca leaves is performed on a specially woven cloth. In the Andean world there is no split between the spiritual and practical sides of life. Their concept of health is much more holistic and ecological than ours; it means keeping the balance between the individual, his community and the environment.
A harmonious individual is happy and healthy and can work hard so there is abundance for the community. A happy and healthy community without internal conflicts, can care for the children who do not produce. A willingness to do community work means that terraces and irrigations systems are maintained, while storing seed crops for the next year and other community efforts make the environment healthy.
What is your understanding of divination?
It is meeting with the spirit of the element that you are working with, whether it is coca, tarot cards, maize or a mountain. In the case of coca, you meet the mother spirit, soul or power of the plant, which is the sacred part which never dies.
The practitioner must be in total communication: spirit-to-spirit. It is more like listening to the coca leaves than reading them. It is a higher state of consciousness. You have to be prepared to integrate yourself spiritually to help another spirit.
Human beings are sacred cosmic seeds in evolution. The coca is a sacred seed like us, only of the vegetable kingdom. As with ayahuasca, wilka, or San Pedro, they have been created by mother earth to guide and heal their younger brothers: ourselves. Similarly we have been created to help other people. As we become more open we discover plants like coca, for example. Not everybody sees the spirit of coca, ayahuasca, or San Pedro, but they are here to help us.
What is your understanding of the cause of disease, and how is it cured?
Illnesses do not exist, we create them with our minds according to our attitudes and the things we do our karma. Resentment for example, causes cancer, a woman whose ovaries are unwell may be resentful of being a woman and suffers trauma. People who do not have the freedom to express their feelings, suffer from throat problems and so on.
So how do we heal them? First we need to look at them through the coca leaves, to know what has happened. Why are they resentful, fearful or anxious? What is causing their problems? Difficulties existing outside our bodies, such as a theft, disillusionment, or being lied to, affect us because we are predisposed to have this pain. Such people get ill because they are not in equilibrium with themselves. The coca shows when and how this began, it tells the story of how they got ill.
Is there a difference between the kind of condition which develops over a long period of negativity, like cancer, and a disease which you can catch from someone very quickly? The first seems to be created by oneself, the latter is biological.
Human beings are always predisposed by their attitudes, this is why you need to know their story. Someone who has a superiority complex or is aggressive and violent is on a downward spiral, they are weakened in their heart, stomach, and solar plexus: the awi or naira (equivalent to chacra) where emotional attitudes are held. So for example, you eat a dirty apple, and immediately you are ill.
A person who harbours feeling of hate may feel perfectly well for a time but problems with their children, their husband, or lack of money, intensify their emotions which degenerate their body on a cellular level. So they create their illness because they were already out of equilibrium. This is why two people might eat the same apple but only one falls prey to the illness.
Can you explain the Andean concept of the Hindu word chacra?
The nearest word in Quechua is awi, or in Aymara, naira, and it means eye or energy centre of the body, but curiously chacra is a very common word in Peru, and is Quechua for piece of cultivated land or field. I believe it has the same linguistic root as the Hindu chacra. Just as some fields have lots of stones, and others are very fertile, so our bodies, also part of nature, are similar.
In the Andes, people will frequently consider an aching stomach to have been caused by sorrow. Less than a generation ago, people would make offerings, before preparing their fields for sowing. They would chew coca leaves, drink chicha or maize beer, and even play music - a whole ceremony. The ancient healers or shamans would give floral or smoke baths to people, curing them of illnesses, fright and so on the health of the land and the people were treated as though interrelated.
When they remove weeds from their chacra, they see it as removing negative emotions from their person. So they identify themselves with their fields and with nature, a little like Feng Shui: you feel better after you have had a Hoover up at home! When you are feeling desperate, the people of the Andes will benefit from going to a wild place or some ruins to scream and shout so that even the mountains will hear. You align with natural forces, this puts you back into equilibrium.
Soul retrieval can be found in many parts of the world. How do they deal with it in the Andes?
When a child falls suddenly, its soul can leave its body and it may get ill. If this happens, an offering is made in the place of the fall, to heal the child.
There are many ways to call the soul . You can get hold of a piece of the person s clothing and make a little doll and decorate it with flowers or whatever the person likes, and you call his soul in the place where the fright took place. You can call up elements like herbs, a dove s nest, rabbits droppings, feathers, tobacco, coca, or whatever.
Before any session, first you must ask permission from Pachamama, or Mother Earth.
What if there is no fixed place where the problem began, eg. when someone has been oppressed by someone?
It doesn t matter, you go to the highest mountain or near to a river.

The original plan for this article was to continue where “The Mechanics of Deception Cryptography - Part I” left off, going into detail on how deception cryptography conveyed information about the historical secrets outlined in my article “JFK Conspiracy and Other Historical Secrets.” Next on the list was the assassination of Martin Luther King. Decoding book author Morten St. George says he will try to make the King prophecy available online. For this final interview, he wants to change the subject.
He wants to talk about a failed date cipher. In the more than twenty-five years he spent isolating and identifying the genuine prophecies in Nostradamus book of prophecies, and in analyzing those prophecies, this would be the only failure he has encountered. It concerns prophecies numbered II-51 and II-52. St. George says these prophecies are connected because they are consecutive and because a word in the last line of II-51 reappears in the first line of II-52. However, there is no reasonable thematic connection between the Great Plague and Great Fire of London in 1666 and the devastating earthquakes of Corinth in 1858 and 1928. Thus, he argues, the two stanzas likely combine to produce a date for another catastrophic event, and the year 2006 is the only rational, numeric possibility he can find.
I looked at prophecies II-51 and II-52 in St. George s book. He has II-51 transitioning from the Great Fire to the Great Plague, with dating calculations thrown in. The key to the earthquakes of II-52 was the textual variant “Ephere,” alluding to Ephyre, the old name of the city of Corinth. I saw no direct or indirect reference to the month of December that he had mentioned and I asked him about that. He replied: “December was only a guess. That last interview took place in the later half of November, so assuming a 2006 event, that only leaves December.”
St. George says he has mixed feelings about the failed cipher. He says he lived in London for ten years and knows many people there. Unfortunately, it may not be over yet. St. George submitted the respective prophecies to additional analysis and found the possibility of a time postponement based on a quirk in the September 11 prophecy, the last prophecy to be fulfilled.
In the September 11 prophecy, a 1999 date was given but elsewhere the prophecies provided indications to advance two years (deception cryptography theory: the prophecies take measures to avoid a premature onslaught of attention). The “terror” prophecy, however, expressed the month of September as “sept mois,” seventh month, not directly as “September.” In his extensive analysis, St. George argued that for Nostradamus the year began on the Spring Equinox and not on January 1. Thus, to get rhyme with the word “Angolmois” at the end of the third verse, Nostradamus could have changed “September” to “sept mois” at the end of the first verse. Now, however, St. George sees another possibility: Maybe Nostradamus did not make a translation adjustment after all; maybe, instead, the prophecies are suddenly reverting to Nostradamus calendar!
St. George therefore claims that the earthquake prediction is not officially dead until March 19, 2007, which would be the last day of 2006 on Nostradamus calendar, likewise on the calendar used in London in 1666. St. George may find himself forced to abandon his cherished conclusion that the prophecies use only the Gregorian calendar. Here s the amended prediction: “one or two major earthquakes or ground-shaking catastrophes prior to March 20, 2007, resulting in massive death in either London or the Greek islands.” Will it happen? Perhaps not, but St. George considers himself the world s leading authority on the prophecies and he says this is the last chance he sees for the prophecies to make a notable prediction in the advance of the event.
Why the last chance? St. George explains that the prophecies are coming to an end. They re exhausted. At best, there are two or three unfulfilled prophecies. One may concern Iran. Another may concern North Korea and an atomic explosion, about which he comments: “It is unhelpful to make a prediction like that. Such possibilities are in the news all the time these days. Any fool can make a prediction like that. It s valueless even if it comes true.”
Consequently, according to St. George, the prophecies of Nostradamus can be declared officially dead on March 20, 2007. For unknown reasons, their author failed to supply us with a single instance of being able to predict an event. St. George, never doubting that the future was accurately foreseen because of overwhelming retroactive evidence, is dismayed: “You need a successful prediction. That s the only thing people understand. That s the proof. I personally don t need to see an advance prediction because I learned to comprehend the thought processes behind the already fulfilled prophecies. Perhaps an expert at solving cryptic crossword puzzles could comprehend some elements of those thought processes, but, in general, cryptic thinking seems beyond the reach of most people. A clear and successful prediction is therefore needed to attract the attention of the world s scientists.”
I considered the possibility that St. George correctly assessed a forthcoming catastrophe and I asked him what if, instead, the prophecies were wrong. He replied: “I see little likelihood of that. We discussed this before. There s strong evidence that we are facing super-civilization technology here. They make no mistakes. The only chance is that I m hallucinating, seeing a re-application that just isn t there. I ve been hallucinating a lot lately, so chances are high there will be no catastrophe.”
Hallucinations aside, St. George maintains that it all depends on whether or not Nostradamus made a translation adjustment. If not, then the prophecies changed calendars, and if they changed calendars, they did so for a reason. The most apparent technical reason would be to extend the year 2006 by a few months.
The death of the Nostradamus prophecies is therefore close at hand. What would remain for St. George s theories? An earlier interview concerned three prophecies that may combine to provide galactic coordinates, possibly of use to a SETI astronomer. Another interview concerned the Revelations of Elijah, a presumed lost book of divine revelation. St. George claims that Nostradamus translated and included these revelations in his book of prophecies, and he insinuates that it merits investigation: “The story of the Revelations of Elijah begins in early medieval times and ends in the Renaissance. The problem here is that the whole period is post-biblical, likewise post-mythical. The descent of Elijah s chariot sounds like a typical mythical theme, but humankind is now long past its mythical period. This means it may not be myth at all. The story of the Revelations of Elijah could turn out to be more sensational than the story of the Da Vinci Code, with the added twist of being nonfiction.”

Motorhead-”Inferno”-Review by Les Lewellyn
When David Grohl of Nirvana and Foo Fighters fame release the sensational CD “Probot” this year it rekindled my metal tastebuds. For those of you not familiar with his project I ll explain. He recorded songs on which he played all instruments and he had guest vocalists come in and sing as well as write the lyrics and play whatever instrument they might also play. The cd features vocalists such as King Diamond, Snake from Voivod, and many other great singers/musicians. The whole cd flows like it was a gift from God or at least the Heavy Metal God. On that cd Lemmy from Motorhead does a fantastic job on the tune “Shake Your Blood”. On first listen I was excited to hear Lemmy singing on such a awesome tune and the excitement was enough for me to do some google searching and that is where I found out that the boys were back and had a new CD released on the indie label Sanctuary entitled “Inferno”. Like Monster Magnet, being on an indie has enhanced their sound big time! Always a rough and tough rocking band, Motorhead has never rocked like they do on this CD. What s amazing is how great Lemmy s vocals sound. I have loved the band since their beginning and my fondness for Lemmy dates back to his Hawkwind days. I have to say I have enjoyed Motorhead whenever I ve bought a cd and listened. But NEVER have I been entrapped into their sound like I am today. The opening song, “Terminal Show”, features Steve Vai on guitar. I have to admit even though I m a guitarist I respect Steve Vai but I just can t get into the instrumental cds he s released. Actually, I dig them I just don t find myself playing them very often. But Steve takes hold of “Terminal Show” and sounds like he s in the band. He refrains from overplaying his part and he fits Motorhead like a glove. Philip Campbell, Motorhead s guitarist, allows Steve Vai to play with no conflicts and it s sweet as honey! But Philip Campbell then goes on to play lead on all the rest of the tunes like a banshee in heat except the end of “Down On Me” on which Steve Vai returns. What s cool about this is the fact that the two tunes on which Steve Vai plays guitar are not necessarily the best on the cd. It s a seemless collection of tunes that will rock the toughest crowd. I can only imagine how great they sound live and I can t wait to catch them on their current tour. Mikkey Dee returns on drums and this cat pounds the hell out of them. Lemmy attacks the bass like a maniac and his vocals are his best to date. The cd never gets politcal but it does paint a dim look at life in these troubled times. It s really kind of creepy how convincing Lemmy sounds on the tune “Killers”. Obviously the dude is fascinated with murder because he sings three tunes about the topic. I m glad he s got his bass and band to keep him busy!!!! I know I claimed Monster Magnet have the best cd this year but I have to say that Motorhead are coming in with a tie at least! “Inferno” is a must buy cd for any hard rock fan. From start to finish the album soars past and demands repeated plays. I am sure that Motorhead s old fans will freak out over this cd and also they ve created a cd that will hopefully get them some new young fans.
